An Interview with Peter Fiore.
Who and where are you from?
I am an American landscape painter, painting in Northeastern Pennsylvania. However, my ancestors emigrated from the land of that little island in the Mediterranean, the jewel, called Sicily.
How you got into this?
I’ve been an artist my entire life. From the age of 5, my father sat with me and showed me the very basics of perspective. I was involved with photography at 10 which eventually led to art school and I’ve been making a living as an artist since I was 20 years old.
What is your driving force?
I’m here for a short time, I want to get as much as I can accomplished. So I guess it’s an awareness of my mortality and bill collectors.
What kind of work you do and why?
I paint the landscape. Trees are life and are the oldest living things on this planet. They are power stand-ins for people. Landscape is a wonderful armature to lay paint down with less concern for the accuracy of what it is — I can just concentrate on light, atmosphere and color. It’s the abstract mark making that I enjoy.
