Kulasai Dasara: A Grand Celebration in Tiruchendur.
The "Kulasai Mutharamman Temple" is located in Kulasekharapatnam near Thiruchendur in the Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu. The temple is a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus, especially devotees of Lord Murugan. One of the most celebrated festivals here is the Kulasai Dasara, a grand event that attracts thousands of devotees from across the country and beyond.
Kulasai Dasara, also known as Kulasekara Dasara, is a nine-day festival that commemorates the victory of Lord Murugan over the demon Surapadman. The name "Kulasai" is believed to be derived from the Tamil word "Kulasekarar," which refers to the Chola dynasty. This festival is said to have been initiated by the Chola kings, who were great devotees of Lord Murugan.
The nine days of Kulasai Dasara are filled with religious rituals, cultural events, and vibrant processions. The festival culminates on the tenth day, which is known as Dashami (Dasara).
