Watercolor Paintings by Elena Vlasova from Moscow, Russia.
From the Brush of Artist - My name is Elena Vlasova, I’m from Russia, Moscow. Now I am artist and I teach painting in water-colours, make workshops and master classes,  teach at Kalacheva Art School.

I studied at Moscow State University of Pedagogicswhere I got a specialty in pedagogy and psychology, I chose a specialization of visual arts. Over the time, this was not enough for me, and I graduated from the School of Watercolor of Sergei Andriyaka. I always improve my skills by visiting master classes of famous watercolor artists.

I draw from my early childhood. Often than you get something easy –it isnot taken seriously - often we think: this is clear, do not have to pay attention for it. Therefore, it seems that we need to find something more serious as a profession. And only after time the nature takes its own, and you understand that it's like breathing - you couldn’t not to draw.

I came to study at the School of Watercolor of Sergei Andriyaka, and this has determined the choice of specialization. I dipped into environment where watercolor appears in all its beauty and power, and it was not some kind of delight, it was a great desire to achieve the same success. From this time along this road I go.

Now I'm interested in modern watercolor artists, I was able to visit the master classes of some of them. This helped me to learn the secrets of their mastery. These are Sergey Temeryov, Ilya Ibrayev, Sergei Kurbatov, Igor Sava. The admiration for the workshop technique I get from the works of Joseph Zbukvich. A thin line of realism and convention, watercolor technique is used as a sensitive musical instrument, when a small nuance speaks a lot.

I still do not think that I found my style in paintings. Here you cannot reach the goal, it's a constant way. I’m on the way. And the search always happens through action.

For me painting  is like breathing, it's natural. This habit does not need to be supported, because It's not a habit, it's just a conversation with the world, although now for me there are still more questions than answers.

I think that you always need to act (you have to agree with me, this principle is universal for everything) and always be in this environment, fueled by new knowledge and ideas, working with like-minded people. Fortunately, there are a lot of opportunities given by the Internet - you can participate in different common projects, watch how others do it, monitor the activities of a masters, and, of course, you must find the opportunity to participate in live events –visit schools, Courses or master classes - everyone can decide for himself, which is the most suitable for him at the moment.
Today there are a lot of adults who learning how to paint. Probably this is because drawing for many people is a way of self-expression and a way of admiring the world. This is very valuable.

In any technique if you want to achieve a high level of skills, you need to do a lot of efforts, nothing falls from the sky. If we look at paintings of the high masters, we can see the years of great work and hard devotion to their work. And watercolor is not an exception. We must work hard. And in difficulty is interest, and when it turns out, as reward - delight!

I always admire the people who are able to hear the voice of their soul in our world of vanity, and most important is to follow it. This is a very interesting way, and if you choose it, there is help and knowledge, and like-minded people. But what a joy from success! Well, the road will be mastered by the going. "

  1. It is so easy to get this illusion... but a lot of your paintings here are enterclass classworks. They are well executed, but the idea is not yours, the composition is not yours, the execution is yours but you were guided step by step by a teacher... I would either recognize those - or not put them out as your works.
